I love my pet, her name is Maggie and she is all of 9 lbs.  She was rescued from a shelter and has been living the dream since she was adopted!  She is a great little (girl) dog and loved by all of the family

Ohio has laws regarding the treatment of companion animals (family pets), it is a crime to abuse or neglect pets. Common forms of abuse or neglect include intentionally harming, killing, torturing, poisoning, withholding food and water, and inadequate confinement.

A first offense for intentionally assaulting an animal is a first-degree misdemeanor, which is punishable by a jail sentence of up to 180 days and/or a maximum $1,000 fine. A second or subsequent offense is a fifth-degree felony, which carries a maximum 12-month prison sentence and/or a fine no more than $2,500.House Bill 60 is also known as Goddard’s Law, named for long-time Cleveland weatherman Dick Goddard, who spent years advocating stronger penalties for animal abuse.  House Bill 60 makes it a fifth-degree felony to knowingly cause serious physical harm to a companion animal, such as a pets or domestic creature.  Serious physical harm is defined as a partial or permanent incapacity, long-term pain or deprivation of food, water and shelter.  (Long Title To amend sections 959.131, 959.132, 959.99, 2921.321, 2929.13, 2929.18, and 2931.18 and to enact section 4741.05 of the Revised Code…The Ohio Legislature website, 2/28/2020).

In the beginning God created… that is what the Bible says in Genesis 1:1.  As one continues to read in verse 26, God said, “Let Us make man in Our image…and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth…and then in verse 28, God blesses them; and God said to them.  “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth…

God gave man an important job – to care for every living thing that moves on the earth… Last week there was a vote in the US Senate for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.  This bill would have supplemented the 2002 Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, which recognizes abortion survivors as human beings but doesn’t specify how to handle them.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act would have required that “any health care practitioner present” at the time of a birth “exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.”

The bill, which exempted the mother involved in the birth from prosecution, also would have required practitioners to “ensure that the child born alive is immediately transported and admitted to a hospital.” It prescribed a possible term of imprisonment of up to five years for violations, not including penalties for first-degree murder that could have applied.

We have amazing laws in the State of Ohio to protect our pets and we support them. However, we are able to ignore something so much more important – the baby born during a botched abortion.  While it is rare for a baby to survive an abortion, more times than not these living babies are put to death by the abortionist.

CNN has updated an article about abortion survivors after facing backlash for describing a baby who survives an abortion attempt as a “fetus that was born.”

“CLARIFICATION: This story has been updated to more precisely reflect the language used in Sasse’s bill,” the article read.  The original phrasing described the implications of a bill that would require abortion providers to give lifesaving care to a baby who survives the procedure.

It also seemed to cast doubt on the wording Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., used to describe care for an infant, putting the phrase “preserve the life and health” in quotes.

“The second bill to be considered Tuesday is the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sponsored by Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, that would require abortion providers to work to ‘preserve the life and health’ of a fetus that was born following an attempted abortion as they would for a newborn baby, or face up to five years in prison,” the article read.

The new phrasing doesn’t call survivors children or babies, but rather directly quotes Sasse’s legislation doing that.  It reads: “The second bill to be considered Tuesday is the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, sponsored by Republican Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, pertains to cases in which ‘an abortion results in the live birth of an infant.’  It would require abortion providers to ‘exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious health care practitioner would render to any other child born alive at the same gestational age.'”

Sasse’s office argued, however, that the network’s reporting was still inaccurate in that it called his legislation an “abortion restriction.” In a statement provided to Fox News, Sasse criticized the apparent delay in updating the article.

“Just read the bill. The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act is about babies who have already been born. I’m glad CNN finally made the correction, but there’s no reason this needed to take two days. Planned Parenthood desperately wants to misrepresent this bipartisan, pro-babies bill and unfortunately too many reporters have bought their spin hook line and sinker.”

Pro-life activists vehemently criticized the original phrasing.  National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis suggested the fetus phrasing was ridiculous. “Did you catch that?’  A fetus that was born.’ What is that? Isn’t that just . . . a newborn infant? The contortion and intentional obfuscation at play here speaks for itself,” she wrote on Tuesday.

When God created us, He created us with a heart and soul, He designed us after His own image and He created us to love one another as we love ourselves (John 13:34) A new commandment I give to you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also must love one another. English Revised Version) and (Mark 12:30-31 NIV) – Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”

As Christ followers we have an obligation – yes, a duty to protect the lives of unborn children.  We can do that with the power of our voices and the action of our votes.  We need to pray continually for our country and those that are in authority!  God can change men’s heart – He changed each of us through the blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  We need to also pray for the mothers who find themselves in the situation of unwanted pregnancies.  Pray that they will come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and that they will choose live.
