Searching for Meaning

Is my life meaningful? This is a question that keeps us awake at night. We want to live with a sense of purpose, knowing that our days on this earth have mattered. And yet, our pursuits often leave us feeling frustrated and empty. There has to be more to life than making through another day. The book of Ecclesiastes challenges us to think deeply about life and points us to the one who can offer true and lasting significance.

Don’t Be a Fool!

In the Bible, a fool is someone who lacks common sense. He is rash, and reckless, and irresponsible. His decisions get him into all kinds of trouble. He is often his own worst enemy. His problem is not so much with his mind, but in his heart. It is not an intellectual deficiency, but a spiritual issue. Every one of us is capable of acting foolishly, and making ill-advised decisions. That’s why we need to ask the Lord for wisdom.

The Beginning of Wisdom

If the Book of Psalms is the great hymnal of the OT, Proverbs is the OT’s training manual for life. In ancient Israel, it was a wonderful resource to help young people learn to live wisely, walking in the ways of the Lord. But it is not only the young, people in every stage of life can benefit from its wisdom. Proverbs is incredibly practical, touching on all kinds of issues we deal with in our everyday lives.
